Clara Pople is a soul/trip hop looper with the lungs of a deep-sea diver, the heart of a Barbary Lion and the voice of an English choir girl. Using a vocal looper to create densely layered harmonic backing and drawing on her choral and gospel background, Clara's singing makes grown men weep. This is a recording we made Clara of her song “The Lark”. The audio is completely live and the video was pieced together from multiple takes by Holly McClenaghan.
Moon Lake is a locally run, independent music venue in London; the kind of small space where artists can put on unique nights that might never hit the mainstream, but mean everything to the people who feel it.
Since opening in 2025, we’ve hosted many beautiful shows. Bands inspired us on stage, our bartender was slinging cans as fast as she could, and yes—someone even did the worm across our wooden floor. It was all going beyond our wildest hopes.
Then… dun dun dun—Haringey Council served us notice. Apparently, we were in violation of a planning permission code we hadn’t even known about when we opened. Turns out starting a music venue in London is complicated (respect to everyone who’s managed it). We were ordered to close, and right now we’re not even legally allowed to hum in the space. Seriously.
To resolve this, we’ve been putting in volunteer hours because we truly believe grassroots music is the beating heart of every community. With your help, Moon Lake can keep that heart beating.
At the moment we are not looking for funds, but if you would like to write an email about what grassroots DIY music venues mean to you, send it to moonlakelondon@gmail.com. We’ll be collecting these to share with the Council.
