Girl Apocrypha - Fresh out the box and doused in drugstore perfume, Girl Apocrypha is a brand-new, genre-fluid artist from Brighton, wielding a lipstick-stained microphone and Playboy cutout-covered guitar. She stands at an altar in front of two families of musical influence. On one side sit bands like Interpol, Placebo and Nine Inch Nails, whilst on the other, pop acts the likes of Lady Gaga, Grimes and The Dare can be found. Her music dances between these two worlds like a tipsy wedding guest, committed to bringing the room together. Girl Apocrypha’s lyricism centres around whatever it is that she can’t keep to herself that day. It is often a scathing account of her many flaws and fears, and it is sometimes a tongue-in-cheek musing on an arbitrary scenario imagined whilst asleep or not paying attention to a mundane task. Following years of fulfilling guitar and bass duties in alternative grunge bands, she is now an artist in her own right. Fundamentally, Girl Apocrypha is a rock star and a pop star crashing together in a stellar collision, and the result is as angsty as it is camp.
Godspeed Jones - Godspeed Jones is a 23 year old singer-songwriter from North London. Their songs are inspired by the percussive, melodic soundscapes of the city to create a dreamy, industrial-adorned take on folk music, and what it means to exist as a small part of a big machine. Jones’ discography is deeply personal - they explore themes of escapism, loss, survival, and radical self-acceptance as a Jewish trans person in an increasingly hostile world. Lyrically, they blur the lines between literal and metaphorical; tonally, they blend atmosphere and accident, with warm, reverb-drenched vocals, city sounds, and cassette-like, nostalgic production.
